SYNOPSIS

SNOW DAY: LIFE, DEATH, AND SKIING is an hour-long documentary that follows a group of senior citizens on their weekly ski trip to the Colorado Rockies. Full of life, but frequently facing profound adversity, these men and women share stories of love, loss, and personal growth that play out in high contrast to the freedom and athleticism they exhibit on the mountain. Filmed over a single ski season, Snow Day draws an intimate portrait of six friends and their decades-long skiing tradition, following them as they take on the various challenges presented by the mountain. Phil and Clark navigate a cautious descent and a few falls between heartfelt chats on the ski lift. Betty, Earl, and Phyllis enjoy satisfying runs, good-natured teasing, and a lunch punctuated with jokes. Roland, the one skier who can’t make it to the slopes this year, spends his days packing up his home and ruminating on the goals he’s set for himself in the face of a terminal cancer diagnosis. Snow Day shows how the bonds of friendship and the love of skiing help these men and women meet the challenges of aging—physical and emotional—and, for one day a week, recapture the experience of flying down the slopes with the sun shining overhead and the wind on your face.
